Project #3
May 21, 2005 & June 25, 2005

Project Leader:

Project Synopsis:
The USFS is asking us for help with 2 surveys. The first will be on May 21 like planned and a second will be conducted on June 25.
This way we will have 2 chances to cover the Timpus and we can recheck any nest that we find the first time around.

The USFS’s major concern raptors are the Ferruginous Hawk and the Loggerhead Shrike. Anything else is a bonus.

The grasslands, with occasional patches of mixed juniper and cedar trees, lots of wildlife, an abundance of Wild Turkeys and Rattlesnakes and many Bobolinks.

Status: Completed Jun. 25, 2005

Two survey trips resulted in 22 nesting sites located of various type. The emphasis of the survey was to find Ferruginous and Shrike given there relatively rare occurrences in the grasslands, but a number of species were found.

Burrowing Owl 1
Ferruginous Hawk 4
Great Horned Owl 1
Mississippi Kite 1
Northern Shrike 2
Swainson's Hawk 8
Short-ear Owl 1
