2011 Nesting Raptor Survey

7 am at the Grasslands Office in La Junta,
corner of E. 3rd and Lacey Ave

Join us Friday night for Dinner at aprox. 6:30 pm, at Felisa’s Mexican Food & Lounge, at 27948 Frontage Road
Or - Saturday morning for breakfast (6 am) at the Copper Kitchen, 116 Colorado Ave.

There are nearby hotels, KOA Campground, or camping east about 20 miles at the John Martin Reservoir. (You can make it a very family fun weekend.)

The day starts at 7 am consisting of orientation and quadrant assignments. Then about 7:30 we head out to find as many raptors and their nests as possible. We wrap up the count at 3:30 back at the Grasslands Office. Usual sightings include Ferruginous hawks, Swainson’s hawks, Red-tailed hawks, Burrowing owls, Barn owls, and Loggerhead Shrikes. Many other forms of grassland wildlife are also observed.
