Welcome to the CHC Apprentice page.
One of the primary roles of the Colorado Hawking Club is to promote the sport of Falconry and to support its members in any way that it can.
If you are looking for more information concerning the sport:
Our first suggestion is to start with the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
They have a packet of information ready to send to you that contains a selected
bibliography, pointers to the state and federal statues, documentation on the
time, expense and personal commitments involved with the sport, and a general
overview of the licensing process. The folks at the DOW have put a lot of
effort into putting together this information so here are a few resources for
you:
If you are looking for a sponsor:
The apprenticeship program, while required by law can be an educational
experience for both the apprentice and the sponsor. The club has an
apprentice director who's sole responsibility is to promote participation within
the club, improve the programs ease of use and effectiveness and to foster
communications between potential falconers and volunteer sponsors.
Keep in mind that becoming a sponsor requires at least 7 years falconry
experience by law and is a significant undertaking and commitment (two years minimum). That combined with the small number of falconers in the state result in a very limited number of available sponsors. Please bear this in mind when contacting the CHC.
If you think that you are at that point, contact our Apprentice Director for
help in obtaining a sponsor. We will be asking that you become a club
member if you do.
If you are looking to become a member:
We're happy to have you with us!
